Larvitar was particularly shy around humans after birth, and he would subsequently often Harden himself towards them. The trauma that Larvitar suffered as an Egg was the main reason for his introverted nature.
During his adventures with Ash, Larvitar gradually learned to appreciate life and everything around him. Larvitar became very close to Ash and his Pikachu, and went on to make some friends with other Pokémon as well.
His impressive strength was first shown in Hatch Me if You Can, after he defeated Team Rocket with his powerful Hidden Power. Larvitar developed a very courageous attitude in You're a Star, Larvitar!, where he managed to rescue a group of Pokémon from Team Rocket by himself.
History
Prior to Series
Larvitar was a Pokémon Ash hatched from an egg Professor Elm gave him. Later it hatched and when Ash arrived at Mount Silver, he left Larvitar with his mother after he and his friends got rid of Pokémon Poachers.
